The Bankstown Library and Knowledge Centre (BLaKC) is located in the heart of Bankstown, one of Sydney’s western suburbs. Located at the corner of Rickard Road and Chapel Road, the Centre overlooks the Paul Keating Park which is a crucial part of the Bankstown Civic precinct. The study areas on Level 1 were lit using direct indirect luminaires providing a comfortable well lit environment for study. One of the challenges faced to light similar study areas on Level 2 were high ceilings creating issues for access and maintenance and while lighting these spaces uniformly to the required light levels. Custom designed floor standing pedestal lights were developed providing localised lighting to the reading and other task areas. These luminaires was utilized in reading areas on Ground Floor to overcome issues of high ceilings with no feasible mounting locations through the void above.
