Melbourne Airport has been enjoying unprecedented growth in international traffic, and the existing facilities for departing passengers, in particular the retail and food and beverage outlets, were no longer considered suitable.

One of the design drivers was to create something that captured the essence of Melbourne, creating an experience for departing passengers that distinguished it from other airports. Melbourne’s unique laneways, passion for art, culture and diversity are abstractly represented within the lounge, leaving passengers with a positive final lasting impression of the city.
